Vasculitic neuropathy presenting as Churg-Strauss paraneoplastic syndrome: a rare association.

چکیده
Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a rare necrotizing vasculitis, with incidence of 2.4 cases per million. It is composed of four of six criteria: asthma, eosinophilia greater than 10%, neuropathy, pulmonary infiltrate, sinus disease and a biopsy containing eosinophilic infiltrate. Peripheral nerve system (PNS) compromise occurs around 75% of the cases and occasionally CSS may be of paraneoplastic origin. We describe a rare case of paraneoplastic CSS associated with breast cancer, presented as severe peripheral polyneuropathy.

“Peripheral Neuropathy Crippling Bronchial Asthma”: Two Rare Case Reports of Churg-Strauss Syndrome
Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a rare cause of vasculitic neuropathy. Although rare and potentially fatal, Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is easily diagnosable and treatable. The presence of bronchial asthma with peripheral neuropathy in a patient alerts a physician to this diagnosis. This is vividly illustrated by the presented two cases who had neuropathy associated with bronchial asthma, eosi...
متن کاملChurg-Strauss syndrome: a rare systemic vasculitis.
Churg-Strauss syndrome is a rare diffuse small/medium sized vessel vasculitis that is almost invariably accompanied by severe asthma. The cause is unknown, but its characteristic histological findings and association with asthma distinguish it from other vasculitides. We report here a middle aged lady who presented with sudden onset of vasculitic skin lesions in association with long standing a...

BACKGROUND Peripheral neuropathy is a prominent feature of the systemic and secondary vasculitides. Usually, it is responsive to corticosteroids, but in certain cases it may be resistant to corticosteroid or immunosuppressive treatment, or both. OBJECTIVE To present patients who exhibited various inflammatory diseases accompanied with vasculitic peripheral neuropathies for which intravenous i...
متن کاملReversible acute renal failure due to Churg-Strauss syndrome.
Renal disease in Churg-Strauss syndrome is generally thought to be benign in nature, thereby distinguishing this rare condition from other necrotizing vasculitides. We report a case in which acute renal failure developed during the aggressive vasculitic phase of the illness requiring dialysis therapy. After one week of daily haemodialysis treatment the patient had become encephalopathic associa...
متن کاملAcute fulminant neuropathy in a patient with Churg-Strauss syndrome.
We report a patient with an acute neuropathy initially mimicking Guillain-Barré syndrome, both clinically and electrophysiologically. Persistent eosinophilia, positive antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody and eosinophilic vasculitis in sural nerve biopsy later confirmed Churg-Strauss syndrome. Since vasculitic neuropathy can present in an acute and fulminant form, the role of early antibody test...
